Educational development is one of the programmatic thrusts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Cerritos Area Alumnae Chapter believes strongly in supporting the academic potential and achievement of youth. As a result, the Chapter instituted a scholarship program which is an integral and important part of our legacy. In the past 20 years over $70,000 dollars in scholarship funding has been provided to high school youth in our service area (Cerritos, Artesia, Hawaiian Gardens, Bellflower, Downey, Norwalk, LaMirada, Santa Fe Springs and Whittier). Our scholarship recipients represented some of the best and brightest high school students who were also committed to community service. Recent scholarship recipients have attended and or graduated from such prestigious universities as Stanford, Harvard, UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, Hampton and Howard among others. In order to provide scholarship recipients with ongoing academic support, in 2015 the Chapter established a book scholarship.
